Live @ the Driskill - The HAAM Sessions
Live @ the Driskill - The HAAM Sessions launches on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 5:30 PM and recurs each second Thursday afterwards. The monthly event will feature an evening with numerous Austin-based musicians performing live at the renowned Driskill Bar. The inaugural evening of the 26th will highlight three legendary Austin entertainers, Devin Preitauer, Lisa Marshall and headliner Emily Gimble. Country crooner Preitauer, best known for his soothing voice will kick things off at 5:30PM followed by Rhythm & Blues singer and songwriter Lisa Marshall. Marshall’s musical prowess includes vocals, guitar, bass, flute, harmonica, drums and percussion. Following in her Grandfather’s footsteps, Johnny Gimble, headliner Emily Gimble graces the stage with a musical vernacular rooted deep in her genes. From fiddle to guitar to her main axe, the piano, this third-generation musician sound is timeless. In addition to over four hours of live music, the hotel will feature a customized tavern and mixology menu featuring Driskill Executive Chef Jonathan Gelman’s unique perspective on HAAM-burgers, HAAM & Cheese, HAAM-strings and of course, The Cure. 35% of proceeds from this menu will be donated to HAAM. There will also be opportunities to donate directly to HAAM, live social media feeds and, of course, a great atmosphere. There are no admittance fees. The kickoff event is from 5:30-10:00 PM Thursday January 26 and recurs each second Thursday of the month in 2012, beginning in February.

In 1994, the Austin Music Hall was one of the first properties in the Austin Warehouse District to be converted into an upscale facility. The Austin Music Hall has hosted hundreds of concerts, presenting such acts as Bruce Springsteen, Beck, Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, Foo Fighters and Dave Matthews Band. In addition, Direct Events and Austin Music Hall have been involved in booking and organizing upscale private events and fundraisers that have helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for non-profit organizations.

Austin GuitarTown hit the streets in November
In November Gibson Guitar unveiled the ten foot Gibson Guitar sculptures and showcase guitars as part of the Austin GuitarTown project. The guitar sculptures are currently being places around Austin in front of city landmarks and businesses. The unique guitar sculptures have been artistically designed by local visual artists. Many of them depict favorite Texas scenes or artistic musical themes. Each is a one of a kind piece of art. At the end of the project, the sculptures will be auctioned off to benefit four local charities: The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM); The Austin Museum of Art (AMOA); American Youthworks; and the Austin Children's Museum. Annie Leibovitz: American Music

Annie Leibovitz began her career photographing the vibrant music scene of the 1960s. Now recognized as one of the premier portrait photographers in the world, she often still focuses her lens on musicians. American Music provided Leibovitz with the opportunity to represent icons and other influential performers of America's traditional and popular music. Over the last decade, Leibovitz captured many of her subjects in their homes, cars, and churches, creating revealing and intimate portraits of over seventy American music legends.

American Music will be accompanied by an audio tour of the exhibition narrated by Annie Leibovitz, as well as iPod listening stations with recordings of the musicians featured in the exhibition selected by Waterloo Records and Video.

Annie Leibovitz: American Music is organized by Experience Music Project, Seattle, and all works are courtesy of the photographer.

The Austin showing of these two exhibitions is presented by HealthTronics, Inc. Additional support is provided by The Penn Investment Group, Hotel San Jos', Jill and Dennis McDaniel, Marion Barthelme and Jeff Fort, LCRA Employees' United Charities, Tim and Lynn Crowely, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert McKnight.
