| 2009 Parade of Homes The 56th annual Parade of Homes opens its doors on Saturday, May 23 and runs through Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Mueller hosted by Catellus Development Group. This year's Parade of Homes, the first in Central Austin in decades, will be unlike any other as it focuses on ultra-green, ultra-urban homes from a group of exclusively local home builders: Bill Taute Homes, Cool River Custom Homes, Durrett Interests, The Muskin Company and Streetman Homes. The tour allows visitors to check out the latest in architecture, interior decorating, landscape design and green-building features. These homes, starting at approximately $1 million, are anticipated to be the first in Central Texas to earn three energy efficiency ratings: (1) a five-star rating in the nationally recognized Austin Energy Green Building program, (2) LEED® certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and (3) green building silver level certification from the National Association of Home Builders. In 2006, Direct Events revealed a plan that would upgrade the Austin Music Hall. On May 18, 2007 the original Austin Music Hall was completely demolished to make way for a brand new venue. | Austin GuitarTown hit the streets in November In November Gibson Guitar unveiled the ten foot Gibson Guitar sculptures and showcase guitars as part of the Austin GuitarTown project. The guitar sculptures are currently being places around Austin in front of city landmarks and businesses. The unique guitar sculptures have been artistically designed by local visual artists. Many of them depict favorite Texas scenes or artistic musical themes. Each is a one of a kind piece of art. At the end of the project, the sculptures will be auctioned off to benefit four local charities: The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM); The Austin Museum of Art (AMOA); American Youthworks; and the Austin Children's Museum. | Waterloo Presents: 30 Bands in 30 Days Waterloo Presents: 30 Bands in 30 Days In Celebration of Our 30th Anniversary Austin's Waterloo Ice House Restaurant Group is celebrating its 30th Anniversary in October with 30 bands in 30 Days benefiting the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). Wade Bowen, Toni Price, Moonlight Towers, Eric Tessmer, Carolyn Wonderland, and the Asylum Street Spankers are among the list of performances. Twenty percent of sales during each one of the 30 shows will be donated to HAAM along with a percentage of door proceeds. | Annie Leibovitz: American Music Annie Leibovitz began her career photographing the vibrant music scene of the 1960s. Now recognized as one of the premier portrait photographers in the world, she often still focuses her lens on musicians. American Music provided Leibovitz with the opportunity to represent icons and other influential performers of America's traditional and popular music. Over the last decade, Leibovitz captured many of her subjects in their homes, cars, and churches, creating revealing and intimate portraits of over seventy American music legends. American Music will be accompanied by an audio tour of the exhibition narrated by Annie Leibovitz, as well as iPod listening stations with recordings of the musicians featured in the exhibition selected by Waterloo Records and Video. Annie Leibovitz: American Music is organized by Experience Music Project, Seattle, and all works are courtesy of the photographer. The Austin showing of these two exhibitions is presented by HealthTronics, Inc.
